For a long time, especially since the arrival of the "Special One", Jose Mounrinho(before the unceremonious departure from the Stanford Bridge), Chelsea had held their fellow Londoners to ransome for as long as Mounrinho was around with them.
It has taken the departure of the Portuguese special manager of the premiership side for the Arsene Wanger boys to bring their arch rivals down from their big castle in the air.
Sunday, 16th December,2007 would go down in memory as a special day at the Emirate Stadium. The likes of Cesc Fabrigas, van Persie, Adebayor (don't mind his many misses-he was still a terror to the Blues that day),Flamini.Rosiscky,Toure,Eboue,Gallas,Clichy(a thorn in the flesh of Wrigth-Philips),Sagna(the unfriendly little boy that terrorised the big Shevy),Almunia, etc would remember that day for a long time to come.
From the blast of the whistle, the Gunners piled up the necessary pressures to made the Blues cave in ,but they stood their ground with their captain,John Terry leading the defence to cover Cech adequately.
Arsenal did not get any chance to do the planned damage to their opponents until after Emmanuel Eboue caused Terry to leave the field after a deliberate hard tackle which resulting in him being given a yellow card and Terry limping out of the field as he could not bear the pains any longer.
The Gunners then began the real pressure and pumped in many devastating shots which Cech succeeded in putting away.
However, when the decisive corner kick came he could hardly save the day for his team.
It was a good sweet revenge for the Arsenal captain,William Gallas.
Remember that he left Chelsea in anger, not because he did not like the team.He left because Jose Mounrinho preferred using him at the "wrong" place in the defence. That is at the wing.
How, l guess, Gallas would have wished that Jose was the one in control of Chelsea when he decided to punish them for throwing him away unceremoniously from the Stanford Bridge.
Ashly Cole tried to pay Arsenal back by running to the attack on many occasions with the hope of scoring a goal against his former team but for the alertness and quick wit of Kolo Toure who put him down on as many occasions.
In all, it was a nice game.
We enjoyed our money (though some betting addicts lost theirs). We also got our adrenaline fired up most of the time.
Well, one can not complain. After all, that is what football is all about.
You get fired up some time, especially when the stake is high and the performers were ready to perform for you.
